Preparing for Thanksgiving

posted by Kristen on 23 Nov 2011 | category: From the Editors, Momentous Occasions

So there’s a lot to anticipate and prepare for with the upcoming holiday. It’s an American tradition and one that most celebrate the same way: cooking a huge feast, sharing it with family and friends, watching football or the parade, and ending the night with a good old turkey nap and some pumpkin pie. Maybe your thanksgiving is a little different than this, maybe not, either way we’re all preparing for the American Holiday. Cosimo has some books that might help you in your preparations.
If you’re the chef for the grand Thanksgiving meal, why not try a new cookbook, or rather a classic cookbook that’s new to you. Mrs. Beetons Cookery Book and Household Guide by Isabella Marie Beeton. As the 19th century Martha Stewart Mrs. Beeton can help you prepare your house and table for guests and instruct you with some different recipes.
If you’re attending a Thanksgiving feast, either at a friends house or with family, you’ll need to know a thing or two about etiquette. Cosimo offers several etiquette books that could help you learn what to bring your host, how to act while there, the proper fork to use, and the best time to excuse yourself from the table. The Book of Etiquette Vol. 1 or Vol. 2 by Lillian Eichler, offers many insights on how to act in different kinds of company and several other pointers for being a good guest.
Or maybe you’re just looking to learn a bit more about the history of Thanksgiving. You could try 400 years of America: Her Discovery, History, Achievements and Politics by Georgie D. Runyan. Maybe you’d prefer diving into the culture of the settler’s guests for the Thanksgiving Feast and reading Old Indian Legends by Zitkala-Sa. Whatever your interest or circumstances for Thanksgiving, you’ll find something interesting to read among out selection. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

The UFO Speculation Continues…

posted by Cosimo on 15 Nov 2011 | category: From the Editors, UFO

For years many have suspected the government of withholding information about UFOs from the general public. Conspirators say that our government has made contact with alien life, but continues to cover it up. An article on CBS’s website reports that two petitions posted on “We the People”, have garnered enough signatures to be delivered to White House Officials. The petition asked the Government once and for all to answer the question of whether they had made contact with or discovered evidence of alien life. UFO Conspirators were surely upset by the answer issued by Phil Larson from the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy. He claimed that no contact has ever been made, and no cover-ups were ever performed in an effort to keep the general public from discovering the truth. Larson did, however, acknowledge that there are government run programs that search for alien life, either by looking for planets that could possibly support life with a special telescope or trying to pick up alien radio signals via satellites. Larson also admitted that odds are there is alien life out there, but we just have yet to make contact and it’s possible we never will.
The question now is whether those who believed the government was withholding information, will still believe it, despite Larson’s statement. With the evidence that has been collected in books, including some written by Cosimo authors, it’s probably safe to say that there are still those who will choose to believe that contact has been made and the government is still trying to cover it all up. To check out the evidence against the government’s statement take a look at Flying Saucers Over the White House by Colin Bennett or The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects by Edward J. Ruppelt or go to the UFO Bookshelf and discover even more UFO titles.

Dare to Care

Business has always been about listening to your head, taking risks, and being ruthless. We’ve all heard the phrase: “It’s not personal; it’s business”, but now it’s being challenged by Louis Bohtlingk’s new book Dare to Care: A Love-Based Foundation for Money and Finance. Mindful of the current economic climate, Cosimo has chosen Dare to Care as its November Book of the Month.

In this book, Bohtlingk has developed a collection of ideas and initiatives to change business. According to Bohtlingk, changing from a money-first to a care-first attitude, as the book suggests, will stimulate thoughts about our current monetary system and economy making them more functional overall. By offering a different way to run businesses and the financial world with his book Dare to Care: A Love-Based Foundation for Money and Finance, Bohtlingk hopes to change the world of finance as we know it.

The book promotes a vision for a love-based economy and a care-first world. With examples of businesses who work with models similar to his own, Bohtlingk proves how and why this vision could become a reality. His workable method has been developed to help corporations and companies change from their current financial plans, which, for many focus purely on profit, to a new economic outlook that focuses more on supporting each other. Dare to Care encourages readers to approach finance and economics from a new perspective, one which urges them to reorganize their own attitude towards money and empowers them to act and achieve a care-first worldview.

Louis Bohtlingk is a visionary who has worked as a counselor for more than 30 years. With his wife Sandra, he has created multiple platforms with which to address the money issues that individuals and companies experience. Louis is also the creator of the “Meeting the Mystery of Money” workshop, which has been held throughout the U.S., the U.K., and the Netherlands and helps individuals to reorganize their finances and lives with a care-first approach. You can learn more about the work Louis and Sandra do on their website, www.carefirstworld.com.
